Mary Ellen Yates

Mary Ellen Yates, age 83, of Erwin, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2015, in the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. She is a native of Washington County and a daughter of the late Arthur and Addie Hensley Yates. Mary was a member of Embreeville Church of Christ and she loved farming and being outdoors. She worked for Scott Farms and later for Jones-Church Farms for a total of 40 years. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by Daughter; Patsy Yates, Sisters; Katherine Yates and Genevieve Welch and Brother; Bernie Yates.Mary has left behind to cherish her memories: Son: Billy Yates of Embreeville Community Daughters: Rita James and husband Harry of Erwin Teresa LaFollette and husband Neale of Erwin Tammy Johnson and husband Billy of Erwin Marilyn Yates of Gastonia, NC 9 Grandchildren 17 Great-Grandchildren 1 Great-Great-Grandchild Sisters: Geraldine Gass and husband Frank of Jefferson City, TN Barbara Arnold and husband Harlon of Jonesborough, TN Brother: Franklin D. Yates of ErwinThe family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Mary Ellen Yates in a funeral service to be held at 5 PM, Sunday, November 1, 2015, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Rev. Charles Fitzsimmons and Rev. Kevin Holley will officiate. A visitation period to offer support to the family will begin at 3 PM and will continue until service time on Sunday. A committal service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 2, 2015, at Bumpass Cove Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Mark Miller, Eric LaFollette, Harry James and Billy Johnson.
