Nick Crowder, age 29, of Asheville, NC, passed away suddenly on Friday, November 24, 2017. Nick is the son of Angela Jill (Ramey) Newman and James Eugene Crowder. Nick Crowder was a record-setting basketball player for Science Hill High School. He continued his career and played basketball at Southern Wesleyan University. Nick spent 5 years in the Anderson community giving back as a teacher, coach, and mentor at Glenview Middle, Lakeside Middle and Westside High. So sorry for your loss, know that you are not weeping alone.Prayers are with you all.
Our little 6 year old daughter Shemaya [the Aramaic word for "heaven"] was in Nick's Boys and Girls Club afterschool program at Johnston Elementary in West Asheville. He was a truly incredible human being and one of the sweetest, gentlest souls that we had ever met. Shemaya continues to say that she misses him. He was a profound influence on her young heart, even in these brief 3 months that she had known him. Our deepest sympathies and heavenly light to all of Nick's friends and family. He is deeply missed. Dale Allen Hoffman and the Hoffman family in Asheville, NC.
P.S.- I often say that there are some people that you just don't worry about when they cross over. Nick is one of those unique souls. He is doing fine, yet we are here to process the loss of his earthly presence. Much love to all.

Nick came into my life as a professional basketball player who was my club's first American professional. He quickly became a friend with his ever present smile and won a trophy during his time in England when we won the 2014 Patrons Cup and the team finished in its highest ever league placing thanks in no small part to Nick's skill and great team play. In the end I became his sponsor and know his loss will be felt in England as well as the USA
My heart has ached since hearing of Nick's death. I was fortunate enough to work with him at Westside High School, and I witnessed his love and passion for his students. We shared many conversations during lunch duty! He also supported my class working with his class on several occasions. What a pleasure to watch his students interact with him and my group.
I will have all of his family and friends in my thoughts and prayers as you grieve this loss.
We are very sorry about Nick's passing. Nick was a very great young man to the students and everyone at Glenview, and he has left a long-lasting influence on the people at school. I am so blessed to have known Nick and enjoyed Nick's friendship tremendously. I really enjoyed our conversations about sports, our love for making music, and about life in general. I will miss his smile and upbeat personality, and his compassion for everyone around him. Nick will be truly missed! Our hearts and prayers go out to Nick's family and friends!
Sherry and I are so sorry to hear about Nick's passing. We have very fond memories of Nick growing up in our neighborhood. He was a great athlete and a kind and caring young man who was giving back to our youth and his community. He will be missed, but we suppose God had other plans for a great young man.
