Steven Wayne Bennett, age 67, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully with a smile on his face, Wednesday, March 22, 2017, with his family and friends by his side. He was a loving husband, father and friend to all. A native of Washington County, he was a son of the late Spencer and Edith Lilly Bennett and most importantly was a blood bought Christian. Steve married the love of his life in 1967, Phyllis Ann Butler and they would have been happily married for 50 years on March 31, 2017. They enjoyed serving the Lord together. He was a Brick Mason and a member of Dry Creek Freewill Baptist Church. He was currently attending Pathway Freewill Baptist Church in Erwin, where he has pastored for the past 3 years. Mr. Bennet has pastored various churches over the past 38 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Ann Bennett and his three brothers, Floyd Bennett, Tim Bennett and Jerry Bennett.Steven Wayne Bennett has left behind to cherish his memories: Loving Wife: Phyllis Butler Bennett; Sons: Johnny Bennett and wife Sharon; Tracy Bennett, and wife Keri; Brothers: Raymond Bennett and wife Frances; Spencer Bennett; Sisters: JoAnn Clay; Judy Hyduk and husband, Bobby; Nancy McKinney and husband, Gordan; Special Grandkids: Dawson Beverly; Paige Peterson; Kayla Peterson; Braylon Milhorn; Several nieces and nephews. The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Steven Wayne Bennett in a funeral service to begin at 4:00 PM Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Berea Free Will Baptist Church, Johnson City, TN. Rev. Dallas Gregg, Rev. Steve Cochran, Rev. Bobby Miller, and Rev. Freddy Bennett will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by Dry Creek Singers and also by The Harris Family. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 1:00 PM and will continue until service time on Sunday at Berea Free Will Baptist Church. A committal service will follow at Barnett Cemetery following the funeral service. Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Jones, Richard Shephard, Frank Lauren, Jacob Cochran, Steve Cochran, and David Foster.
