Tom Emmert

Tom Emmert, age 78, of Erwin, fell asleep in the Lord on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at his residence. He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church and a son of the late George W. and Myrdith Bailey Emmert. Tom was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force who loved his family, friends and his country. He was a generous man and enjoyed fishing, boating, watching the wildlife around his home and playing with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bud Emmert and sisters, Patricia Bowman and Betty Emmert.Tom Emmert has left behind to cherish his memory: Wife, of 23 years: Georgia (Garland) Emmert, of Erwin; Son: Frank R. Emmert, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Step-Daughter: Amy Banks, of Erwin; Step-grandchildren: Noah Banks and Emalee Banks, of Erwin; Sisters: Barbara Renfro, of Kingsport; Kathy Franklin, of Johnson City; Jennifer Calloway, of Kingsport; Brother: Greg Emmert, of Erwin.The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Vinodini Krishnan and her staff at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service to be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 14, 2017 in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home. The Very Reverend Archimandrite Nikiforos of St. Menas Greek Orthodox Chapel, New Orleans, will serve. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 10:00 AM and will continue until the hour of service at Valley Funeral Home and other times at his residence. An interment service will be held in Evergreen Cemetery immediately following the funeral on Saturday. Pallbearers will be: Larry Mauzey, Jamie Banks, Noah Banks, John Calloway, Wayne Renfro and Drew McNabb.
