Harmon Shelton

August 12, 1937 - September 1, 2018

Harmon Shelton, age 81, of Erwin, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at his residence, after a lengthy illness. A native of Madison County, NC, Harmon is a son of the late Alonzo and Almettie Shelton. He attended Sweetwater Church of God and retired from Nuclear Fuel Services. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed coon hunting. In addition to his parents, Harmon is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children: Naomi Hensley Shelton; wife: Esta Charlene Shelton; son: Leonard Allen "Buddy" Shelton; step-daughter: Angela Shelton; brothers: Elzie Shelton, Atmon Shelton, Bewley Shelton and Fairley Shelton; sister: Linda Ann "Sis" Williams Harmon Shelton leaves behind to cherish his memory: Daughters: Flora Kay Shelton, LaVana Gaye Church; Grandchildren: Tamara Wilson, Matthew Shelton, Savannah Church, Dawson Church; Great-granddaughter: Hannah Collins; Step-daughters: Pamela King, Carol Bernice Sanders; Step-sons: Robert Shelton, Louis Shelton; Step-grandchildren: Landon King, Whitney Jones, Jeremiah Shelton, Austin Shelton, Avery Shelton, Taylor Sanders; Step-great-grandchildren: Levi Jones, Ella Jones, Adalyn Jones; Brothers: Steve Shelton, Hildon Shelton, Freemon Shelton, Glen Shelton; Sister: Molly Hensley; Several nieces and nephews. The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Harmon Shelton in a funeral service to be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Sweetwater Church of God. Reverend Craig Shelton will officiate. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 and will continue until 9:00 PM at the residence: 3030 Temple Hill Road, Erwin, TN 37650. A committal service will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 in Alonzo Shelton Cemetery, immediately following the 2:00 PM funeral service. Those who wish to attend will meet at Sweetwater Church of God for the 2:00 PM service. Serving as pallbearers will be: Matthew Shelton, Clayton Wilson, Michael Jones, Matt Sanders, Carol Watts and J.B. Watts. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dawson Church and Levi Jones. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Sweetwater Church of God, 712 Rector Laurel Road, Flag Pond, TN 37657.
