Helen was one of the sweetest ladies I've ever known. Her smile was contagious! I have the best childhood memories with Helen, Luther, and Patty. She never said a word when Patty and I made Christmas treats and messed up her kitchen! She just laughed and helped us eat it. Or when we were playing music really loud. Or just hanging out at the store. She was there, letting us be kids. The one thing that I remember the most, she listened to you. No matter what was going on around her, she really listened to what you had to say. She was an Angel on earth.

I was about 9 years old when I met Helen. Luther brought her to my Aunt Willie's to meet the family. I thought she looked like a movie star - I loved the way she laughed and smiled. Even now I think of her and see her smiling. We had some good times sitting in the breezeway, talking and laughing. One of the saddest things about getting old is losing the people who you care about the most. Our old Sunnycrest gang are almost all gone now. I cherish the time I spent with Helen and all the snips of a herb or flower she would have growing over on her side. Patty, Jim, Matthew and Evelyn: Helen was so proud of all of you - - you were the light of her life. May the Lord bless you and keep you.

A light in the family ... an aunt that children wanted to go to Johnson City and stay with (who just happened to live over a store) ... an aunt that came every Christmas eve with gifts a child waited for ; a church member and God's servant ... giving showers, hostessing at dinners, a stalwart presence for the Lord; a great-aunt who ran the store at the end of the street and told you that you had "just enough" money for the candy you wanted (even when you didn't) ... a sister-in-law who cared, checking on Willie and celebrating her birthdays with us ... an aunt who came on one of the worst days of our lives, the day we lost Willie Mae and stayed with us, holding us up in presence and prayer; an extraordinary wife, mother, and grandmother, speaking with pride of Matthew's upcoming marriage on the day she passed away ... and a Godly example, as evidenced by her family left behind. We, too, will miss Aunt Helen. Love, Ron, Debbie, Wade, Rhonda, Linda & Doug
