Walter Andrew Story, age 91, of Erwin, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family and friends. Walter is a son of the late Joseph and Myrtle (Helton) Story. He is of the Baptist faith and retired from the United States Forestry Service. He enjoyed playing guitar and listening to Gospel music. In addition to his parents, Walter is preceded in death by his best friend and loving wife of 67 years, Betty Lee (Lockner) Story; one son, Larry Story. He is also preceded in death by 7 brothers and 3 sisters.Walter Andrew Story leaves behind to cherish his memory: Daughter: Brenda Tittle and husband, Clinton, of Erwin; Sons: Andy Story and wife, Connie, of Erwin, Earl Story, of Erwin; Daughter-in-law: Sheila Story, of Erwin; Grandchildren: Todd Story, Andrew Story and wife, Jerrica, Kerri Tomlison and Thomas, Wayne Story, Andrea Viles and husband, Phillip, Jenny Shelton and husband, Tim, Brandy Dunbar and husband, Anthony, April Marotta and husband, Ethan, Matthew Tittle; Step-grandchildren: Dwayne Tipton, Tracie Metcalf, Jodie Tolley; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; Several nieces and nephews.The family would like to offer special thanks to the nurses and staff of Avalon Hospice for their loving care during this difficult time.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Walter Andrew Story in a graveside committal service to be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 24, 2019 in Bumpass Cove Cemetery. Reverend Russell Wheeler will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by James and Vernon Story. Those attending will meet at Bumpass Cove Cemetery by 1:50 pm on Thursday for the service. Serving as active pallbearers will Anthony Dunbar, Ethan Marotta, Matthew Tittle, Rusty Miller, Dain Horn and Wayne Story. Honorary pallbearer will be Ian Shelton. I loved Walter very much. He always greeted me with a big hug and kindness and love. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He will be missed I know by many . I give my sincere condolences. God bless you all and keep you during this sad time.
