Wayne Peterson Jr.

Wayne Peterson, Jr., 61, of Erwin, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Peterson was a native of Unicoi County and a son of Mary Chandler Peterson, Erwin and the late Wayne B. Peterson. Early in Wayne’s working career he received his certification as a welder while working at the former Hoover Ball, Inc. He later graduated from LPN school and worked as a nurse for many years, later serving in an administrative capacity in home healthcare. He also served as the Health and Safety coordinator for T.P.I. and had worked for the VA Medical Center. Mr. Peterson has ten years total in County Government, formerly working for the Unicoi County Register of Deeds Office and was presently the Unicoi County Assessor of Property. He was a licensed taxidermist, winning several awards for his work. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish. He enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his children and grandchildren by teaching them fundamentals of hunting and fishing.In addition to his mother, Wayne has left behind to cherish his memories Son: Josh Peterson and Holly of Erwin; Daughter: Nikki Witt and husband, Lance of Jonesborough; Grandchildren: Keelie and Blake Hall, Layla Peterson Sister: Becky Howell and husband, Bob of Erwin; Brother: Reverend Ferrell Peterson and wife, Marcella of Erwin; Niece: Chris Davis and husband, Stacey of Erwin; Nephew: Eric Peterson and wife, Kearstin of Erwin; Great Nephews: Jonathan and Jordan Davis; Additional Nephews: Andy, Robert and Shane StacyThe family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Wayne Peterson, Jr. in a funeral service to be at 7:00 PM, Friday, February 19, 2016, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Ferrell Peterson and Reverend Steve Rice will officiate. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 5:00 PM and will continue until service time on Friday at Valley Funeral Home. A committal service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Evergreen Cemetery. Those who wish to attend will meet at Valley Funeral Home by 10:30 AM to go in procession to Evergreen Cemetery.
