Clifton E. Foster, age 84, of Erwin, passed away, Friday, January 18, 2008, in the Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness. Born in Unicoi County, he was the son of the late David and Sally Louise Taylor Foster. He served with the U. S. Navy during WWII and later retired from the U. S. Navy Reserves following 25 years of service.. He retired from Clinchfield Railroad as an engineer following 33 years of service. He also was owner and operator of Foster Trailer Park. Clifton graduated from ETSU in 1958. Clifton was past president of the Ruritan Club, a Mason and member of Jericho Temple of the Shrine. He had served as a treasurer of Rock Creek Church of God where he was a member. Clifton is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maude Ayers Foster who passed away on December 3, 2007, one daughter, Linda Lee Foster Tipton, one brother, Climmer Foster, four sisters, Lula Higgins, Leuna Haines, Blanche G. Harris, and Bonnie Mae Harris. Clifton leaves behind His two sisters, Kate Hollifield, Erwin, Nancy R. White, Johnson City; two grandsons, Scott and wife Leslie Downard and Keith Downard, both of Erwin; four great grandchildren, Ashley Nugent, Erwin, Gabriel Downard, Erwin, Linda Nicole Downard, Erwin, And Hunter Downard, Erwin; Several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Sunday, January 20, 2008, 2:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home, Reverends Earl Ragland and John Edwards will officiate. Music will be provided by Ray and Debbie Mitchell. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Graveside services will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Charlie Griffith, Kenneth Miller, David Hollifield, Robert Miller, Charlie Nugent, Jamie Sparks and Gary Foster. Oh, how we will miss you Uncle Clifton,we enjoyed visiting with you and looked forward to visiting when ever we could,I'll never forget the good times we used to have when we were little kids, My heart is broken but I know you are in a better place with your Lord and Savior and to be with your love ones again.
