F. June Dover, 87, died Saturday, October 25, 2008.  She was born July 13, 1921 in Greenup County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late John and Gertrude Messer Brooks. She and husband Don lived in Sarasota, Florida for 35 years before moving to Don’s home place of Erwin in 1991. June fully embraced the transition from the sunshine state to the beautiful mountains of northeast Tennessee.   June was a hairdresser for 25 years, a trade that gave an outlet to her artistic side. June was an artist in every sense of the word. She was an accomplished musician and vocalist, enjoyed painting and drawing, and writing poems. She was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s singing group that traveled throughout Florida performing.  She was chosen as Ms. Senior Appalachian Fair and was a member of the Clinchfield Senior Center Line Dancers. Volunteering for the Unicoi Memorial Hospital Auxiliary also brought her great pleasure. June was a life-long member of the Methodist Church which was the focus of her life. She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Chancel Choir, Group Therapy Musical Group and the Joy Circle of the United Methodist Women.  June was preceded in death by her husband Donald W. Dover, sister Beatrice Haight, and brother Cecil T. Brooks. Survivors include: daughters, Bonnie Newson Biorn (and husband, Robert, Menlo Park, CA) and Caroline D. Jackson, (Erwin); grandsons: Erik Lafitte Newson (Aspen, CO), Christian Conrad Newson (Bend, OR), Michael Wilson Jackson (and wife Kristy Williamson, Mt Carmel, TN), David Leigh Jackson (and wife Wendy Britton, Papillion, NE); four great-grandchildren: Adre Newson, Samantha J. Jackson, Bronwyn L. Jackson, and Thomas D. Jackson. A special thank you is extended from the family to Portia Phillips who in recent years was a faithful friend, great comfort, and caregiver. She enriched June’s life with her care and support.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 203 N. Elm Ave., Erwin, TN 37650, or to a charity of choice. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family and viewed by visiting our website at www.valleyfuneralhome.net. These arrangements are made especially for the family and friends of F.
