Homer Blankenship, age 76, of Erwin, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at his residence. He was a native of Unicoi County and a son of the late C. L. and Eugenia Crain Blankenship. Homer retired in 1982 after 30 years at Chrysler Corporation in Newark, DE. and was a member of the United Auto Workers. He was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church in Buladean, NC. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Paul Blankenship and by three Sisters; Fannie Fender, Elva Blankenship and an infant sister, Grace Blankenship. He leaves behind his wife of 54 1/2 years: Lois Rice Blankenship Son; H. Wayne Blankenship, wife Cathy, Wilmington, DE Daughters; Bonita Hash, husband Roger, Clemmons, NC   Elva Lester, husband Tony, Knoxville, TN      Brothers; Joseph Blankenship   Dallas Blankenship   Hurshel “ Bud” Blankenship  Sisters; Glenna Crain   Doris Ann Butler   Nola Johnson   Patsy Church Grandchildren; Christian Walker, Wayne Blankenship, Justin Blankenship, Bryan Walker, Randall Blankenship and Sara Blankenship.  The funeral service will be held at 7 PM, Wednesday, August 3, 2011 in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Brother Bob McCurry will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2011, 5:00 PM until service. Interment will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Roger Hash, Bud Blankenship, H. Wayne Blankenship, Randall Blankenship, Wayne Blankenship and Justin Blankenship. Honorary Pallbearers will be Clyde Edwards, Frank Rogers, Mike Hensley, Tony Lester and Bill Lingerfelt. Those who plan to attend, please meet at Valley Funeral Home at 9:30, Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to Spring Creek Baptist Church, 13600 N. 226 Hwy, Bakersville, NC 28705.

I am sorry to say that we never knew Homer Blankenship but all we did know we heard from Bonita. I know that one day we will meet Homer in heaven and become one large family worshipping God.Our thoughts and prayers go out for your family and may the peace and comfort of God be with you during this difficult time.
