Lena Love Day Edwards, 85, passed away from this life to her eternal home in Heaven on February 18, 2007, at the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born to Walter and Myrtle Hampton Day on March 14, 1921. Preceded in death by her father and mother, Brothers - Isaac Day, Ernest Day, Leonard Day and Woodward Day, sister - Ruby Peterson, grandson - Terry Lee Edwards, daughter-in-law - Leona Edwards and son-in-law, Talmadge Higgins. Lena leaves behind her husband of 70 years, John C. Edwards, Erwin; five sons, Kenneth Edwards, Terry L. Edwards and wife, JoAnn, Gary S. Edwards and wife, Diedra, Charles M. Edwards and wife, Sherree - all of Erwin, and Gene Edwards and wife, Florence, Franklin, Mass; three daughters, Martha S. Peters and husband, Dennis, Lisa L. Slemons and husband, Tony - both of Erwin and Loretta (Suzy) Higgins and husband, Roger, Soddy Daisy, TN; two brothers, Earl Ray Day and wife, Jewell and Roy (Boots) Day and wife Mary - both of Erwin; one sister, Harriett Glatfelter, Penn; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, numerous friends and especially a life-long dear friend, Jettie Vanover and her best telephone buddy, Judy Peterson; her church family and last but certainly not least, her pastor whom she lovingly called her "adopted son" Earl Ragland. She lived a full and beautiful life. She worked hard at keeping her family close to her. She would quickly let you know she was most proud of all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, her love of God and her church. She was a long-time member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Erwin where she attended on a regular basis until her death. Family and friends could always depend on her prayers and comfort during the tough times of their lives. She was one of God's prayer warriors. She loved to listen to WEMB's Bible Trivia. Her calls to Tradio will be missed by all. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral Service will be held at Seven O'clock, Tuesday, February 20, 2007 in the chapel of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Reverend Earl Ragland will be officiating with Reverend James Dunn to assist. Verleen Lewis and Louise Pate will be providing the music. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service. Graveside services will be held Wednesday morning at Eleven O'clock in Day Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandson, Alan Higgins, Maurice Higgins, William Higgins, Doug Holloway, Stevie Edwards, Casey Edwards, Jason Edwards and Joseph Higgins. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Erwin Pentecostal Holiness Church. All those planning on attending the graveside services are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 Wednesday morning.
