Tony Hughes

Tony Leon Hughes, age 63, 225 South Mohawk Drive, Erwin, passed away September 5, 2005, at the V.A. Medical Center. Born in Erwin, he was the son of the late Robert H. and Mary Lucille Miller Hughes. Tony served his country in the Navy on a submarine as a torpedo man during the blockade of Cuba. He retired from Clinchfield Railroad and CSX in 1991 after 26 years. Tony was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and attended Fishery Community Church. He was also a member of the UTU 1162 Railroad Union. Tony loved to refinish furniture with his carpentry skills especially old antiques. Tony leaves behind his loving wife of 42 years, Happy Gail Edwards Hughes, three sons, Todd Christian Hughes and wife, Tina, Las Vagas, NV, Tracy Charles Hughes and wife, Cindy, Charlotte, NC, Shawn Paul Hughes and wife, Faye, Erwin; seven grandchildren, Nikki Hughes, Sara Hughes, Danielle Meadow, Hayden Hughes, Hayley Hughes, Alex Parker, and Nathan Parker; two brothers, Kenneth Lee Hughes, and wife, Joy, Fulton, KY, Douglas Wayne Hughes, and wife Pam, Johnson City; special friends, Rusty Wishon, Leroy Webb, and Danny and Renee Keplinger. Military graveside services will be held Thursday, September 8, 2005, eleven o'clock at the V.A. Mountain Home Cemetery. Reverend Rusty Wishon will officiate. Public visitation will be from five to six o'clock at Valley Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 and then at the residence from six to eight o'clock. All those planning on attending the graveside services are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 Thursday morning. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Fishery Community Church Building Fund, 501 Fishery Community Church Road, Erwin, TN 37650.
