Troy Fletcher Powers, age 85, of Erwin, passed away in the Johnson City Medical Center on Thursday, December 20, 2007. Born in Dickinson Co, VA, Troy was the son of the late Benton M. and Mary Amburgrey Powers. He bravely served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII where he was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon for heroism displayed against the Japanese forces in the Pacific. After leaving the military, he worked for ~40 years at Clinchfield Railroad as a carman and a member of the wreck crew. He retired in 1982. Troy was an Elder of Love Chapel Christian Church. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Rob Harrell in 1974. Troy leaves behind His wife, Jackie Powers, Erwin; Daughter, Gloria J. and her husband, Chuck, Raleigh, NC; Grandson, Scott Harrell and Cindy, Johnson City. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 22, 2007, at One O?clock in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Bruce Shawver will be officiating the service. Graveside services will follow the service at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Members of Love Chapel Christian Church will be serving as pallbearers.
