Virginia Ferguson LaVerne

Virginia Beatrice Ferguson LaVerne, age 91, passed away on January, 6, 2010, at the Center for Aging and Health. She was born April 27, 1918, in Erwin, TN. Virginia is the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Pearl Ferguson.   As a graduate of Johnson City Business College, she worked over the years as a stenographer, legal secretary, bookkeeper and personnel director. She considered her most important calling to be that of wife and mother, handing down to her children her love for literature, art, music and spiritual truth. As a music historian, she delighted in singing her favorite songs, giving the composer’s names and dates. Up until the last, Virginia maintained her spirit of cheerfulness and her faithfulness as a prayer warrior, while drawing strength from the many scriptures committed to memory. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, John L. LaVerne, Son: Philip LaVerne Brother: Reverend C. H. Ferguson, two brother-in- laws: Donald Lemmon and Loring Lemmon and a sister-in-law: Faye Lemmon.   She is survived by two sons:       Larry LaVerne, wife Patty of Marietta, Ga.        Alan LaVerne of Tulsa, Oklahoma   Two sisters: Judy Moss and husband Dick, Erwin Shirley Walker of Little Rock, Arkansas Three sister-in-laws: Joy L. Casino, Lois Lemmon and Sue Ferguson    Four Grandchildren: Mark LaVerne, and wife Jenny, John LaVerne, and wife Rhonda, Matt LaVerne, Lana LaVerne Harp and husband Tye. Three great-grandchildren: John, Paul and Jackson LaVerne A step-granddaughter: Tonya Osborne: and two step-grandchildren: Bailey and Riley Osborne.         Virginia will be fondly remembered as well by her cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.   The family would like to thank the Center on Aging and Health and the team members of Caris Healthcare for the compassionate support they gave to “Miss Virginia” and her loved ones.   A memorial service will be held at a later date.    Condolences and memories may be shared with the family and viewed by visiting our website at www.valleyfuneralhome.net. These arrangements are made especially for the family and friends of Virginia Beatrice Ferguson LaVerne through Valley Funeral Home, 1085 North Main Avenue, Erwin, Tennessee 37650. 423-743-9187.Read Obituary
