Virginia Morgan Howze died on January 25, 2005 in Alexandria, Virginia, where she had resided for the past six years. She was 85 years old. Born in Escambia County, Alabama, she was the daughter of Wendell and Emma Morgan. Ms. Howze was married on July 17, 1941, to Thomas M. Howze. a long time resident of Erwin TN, who preceded her in death. She spent her adult years living in East Tennessee, Florida, and Northern Virginia. Virginia, known to family and friends as Jenny, was an English teacher, reading specialist and guidance counselor in Tennessee and Florida public school systems for more than three decades. Her dedication to students including those with learning challenges was acknowledged through several professional awards over her career. Over fifty years, in conjunction with her husband, she owned and operated Evergreen Florist in Erwin, TN, Elenita Farms in Jonesborough, TN and Tom Howze Antiques in Jonesborough and St. Petersburg, FL. Virginia was a noted collector of antiques and fine art. Her other interest included literature, drama, gardening and cooking. She is survived by her four children: Tom Howze Jr., Doraville, GA, Myra Howze Shiplett, Alexandria, VA, Wendell Howze, Kissimmee FL,, and Bill Howze, Reading PA, and their spouses; as well as six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Virginia was the sister-in-law of Ben K. and Ann Howze and Charlotte D. Howze, all of Erwin. A celebration of Jenny's life will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2005, at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Father Jack Humphrey will officiate the service. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment services will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
