Gwendolyn Ann Young, age 71, of Erwin, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at her home. A native of Johnson City, Gwen is a daughter of the late Andrew Lee and Bessie Leona (Roberts) Fishel. She was a lifetime member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she was the Missions and Outreach Chair. Gwen loved serving her community, working closely with the local Back to School Backpack Drive, serving Thanksgiving meals, and overseeing the kitchens at both Grace United Methodist Church and Erwin Church of God where she was a faithful supporter of the semimonthly services, "Breaking Down the Walls", hosted jointly by the two churches.Gwen was formerly employed by Unicoi County Memorial Hospital as a Medical Lab Technician. She was a sports fanatic and loved most all sports. She loved traveling, history, both of her churches and her furbabies. She also enjoyed spending time with her daughter, Kim, watching TV. In addition to her parents, Gwen is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 39 years: Charles Wesley Young, Jr; two uncles: Charlie Clyde Roberts and Joe Calhoun; and one aunt: Gladys (Roberts) Street.Gwendolyn Ann Young leaves behind to cherish her memory: Daughter: Kimberly Ann Young, of the home; Brother: Gary Fishel, of CA; Aunts: Barbara Davis, of Erwin, Eula Calhoun, of Birmingham, AL; Special friends: Tiffany Gallagher and husband, Chris, of Erwin, Betty Corriveau and husband, Robert, of Unicoi, Clyde Harrell, of Erwin, Susan James, of Johnson City, Glenda Gonzales, of Johnson City; Furbabies: Snowflake, Salem, Adopted furbaby: Roxy.The family would like to offer special thanks and much love to all of our friends, church families and adopted family for their love, kindness and especially for their prayers during this difficult time.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Gwendolyn Ann Young in a memorial service to be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, June 19, 2020, at Erwin Church of God. Reverend Laura Tracy, Bishop John Edwards and Reverend Garland James will officiate. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 4:00 pm on Friday, June 19, 2020 and will continue until service time at Erwin Church of God.
